noon hour

. . . is a funny time to be at the pool. Seriously, there were six people there already, when I jumped in. Luckily, two lane ropes were up. Not one to shrink off (not today anyway, I only had 55 minutes at this point!), I headed for the middle, surrounded by the lane ropes. I could see that someone was there already, but hey, I like to share! Immediately, the guard tried to talk me in to moving between two swimmers in a double lane. Uh, no way! I told her that there would be much butterfly, and potential smacking of people and wave creation. . . and I had already talked to my lane-buddy, and she seemed okay with it. The guard tried a second attack, stating something about having to do lane trafficking now (um, trafficking?). Anyway, I got started, and guess what? The pool was cleared in about 20 minutes. What's up? These people just like to get wet on a freezing cold winter day? Anyway, that's clearly their thing, and I had a great second half of the workout, all by myself!

warm-up (400m): mixed
mini-speed (400m): 8 x 50m IM switches on 1:10 (it was challenging, but I held it!). Order: fly/ back, back/ breast, breast/ free, free/ fly.
aerobic endurance (1000m). first third easy/ moderate, second third moderate, final third fast. Last 150 was pretty close to top speed. Well, relative top speed anyway. The whole thing took me 18:36. Not great, but not terrible.
recovery (400m): 3x50m back kick/full stroke breast, 3x50m IM (switch in middle), 100m free pull.
warm-down (200m): mixed, including 100 backstroke.
===2400m
