I haven't seen this in a while.

3500! I'm checking my math again, just in case. . . .

Warm-up (400m): mixed.
Minispeed (600m): 3x [25 easy/ 25 fast/ 50 easy/ 50 fast/ 25 easy/ 25 fast].
Aerobic choice (2000m): 5x 200 free on 3:45*, 5 x 200 choice (br/bk/br/bk/br) :15.
Recovery (300m): 3x [50 back kick/ 50 free].
Warm-down (200m): easy.
===3500

* I started out trying to do a 3:15 (I know, what was I thinking. Last week I was doing 200s on 2:00). 3:45 was much better, giving me between :15 and :10 rest.

Still felt kind of bummed and slow, but I did it. And I'm sure the math is correct. yay.

edited to add: The eye-strobe happened again after this workout. About 45 minutes after getting out of the pool, while eating delicious roast chicken Mike had prepared for us. Mike thinks that it's not the workout, but the chicken. Hmm. . . I'll check with the "visual migraine" experts on that.

Well done Lori!! Just keep plugging away and all those nasty (wonderful) mexican beach habits will turn back into good training.

You are justified in being frustrated with the pool/guards/ridiculous policies. Regardless of the number of swimmers, there should be ropes in for lane swim. Geesh. And don't get me started on professionalism.

I hope we can catch up soon, have you thought at all about which meets you'd be interested in for the new year?

I just noticed the eye strobe-y afterthought. I am actually not surprised that it happened again after this workout. I do believe it is likely physical "stress" related. I struggled with what to title the main set of this workout.

If done at a low intensity, finish the distance type intensity, it is aerobic. However it could also be done at anaerobic threshold pace as well.

So far most of these strobey incidents have been aftger an anaerobic threshold workout. We can chat more about what this means later, but perhaps you are exceeding your "threshold" pace and causing too much stress over a 2000m set. We may want to start keeping an eye on your heart rate during different types of sets.

For example, after your warmup (easy pace) take your HR for 10 sec. After a truly aerobic set, take your heart rate for 10 sec and then compare to your 10 sec heart rate after a set like the 8x25 kick. You must take your heart rate immediately upon getting to the wall, and easiest is at the neck.

Just some thoughts, Julie.
